Privacy Policy — HideCam

Last updated: 15 August 2026

HideCam ("the app") is provided by Mohamed Shifaz ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with your information.

The short version

HideCam does not collect, transmit or store your personal information. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server. Everything the app records stays on your device.

What the app stores, and where

Photos, videos and voice recordings you capture are written into the app's own private storage on your device, encrypted with AES-GCM using a 256-bit key generated on your device. That key is held in the iOS Keychain, marked as device-only, and is not synchronised to iCloud or included in any backup. The folder holding your captures is explicitly excluded from iCloud and iTunes backups.

We cannot read your captures. There is no copy anywhere but your device, and no recovery mechanism — if you delete the app or use the in-app Panic Wipe, the encryption key is destroyed and the files become permanently unreadable, including by us.

Your passcode and duress code are never stored. Only a salted hash of each is kept on your device, which cannot be reversed to recover the code.

Failed unlock attempts. If you enable "Photograph failed attempts", the app records the time of an unsuccessful unlock and, after three consecutive failures, a single still image from the front camera. These are stored encrypted on your device exactly like your other captures, are visible only to you in the Break-in Log, and are never transmitted.

Your settings (capture preferences, whether the disguise is on, and which version of these documents you accepted) are stored in the app's own preferences on your device.

What we do not do

Device permissions

The app asks for permission only at the point it needs it, and each is used for one purpose:

PermissionUsed for
CameraRecording the photos and videos you capture in the app
MicrophoneRecording audio with your videos, and voice notes
Photo Library (read)Only when you choose to import existing items into the vault
Photo Library (add)Only when you deliberately export an item out of the vault
Face ID / Touch IDUnlocking your vault. Biometric data is handled entirely by iOS; the app never sees it

Declining any of these limits the corresponding feature and nothing else.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details. Apple provides the app with a receipt confirming whether a purchase is active; it contains no personal information we retain.

Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not this one.

Children

HideCam is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 17. We do not knowingly collect information from children — we do not collect information from anyone.

Your rights

Because we hold no information about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, export or erase on request. All data the app creates is under your direct control on your device: you can delete individual items, or destroy everything at once with Panic Wipe in Settings.

If you are in the EEA or UK, note that we are not a data controller for any of your captures, as we never receive them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the app will ask you to review and accept the new version before continuing.
